so, as a continuation from the nano-post about the premiere of the Skullmates teaser earlier this year, i wanted to give consistent updates on the development of its other incarnations up until an actual release. i’m talking namely about toys, of course.
Skullmates started out as a fascination with binding two things together. that is a very general idea, but perhaps it was after a stint of watching nonstop Gurren Laagan episodes, which feature larger-than-life robots that synergize to create endless ability pairings. contrary to the structure of Nanospore characters, Skullmates are not limited to a rounded cube/bulbous body shape nor a lack of facial expressions [although those very traits are what i feel give a Nanospore its catchy deadpan personality]:

Skullmates, in contrast, are a species of charming parasites that burrow themselves into skulls [dead / alive, fictional / non-fictional] and make them their new homes. In that respect, Skullmates are the new hermit crab. i’m not really gearing them towards any specific demographic - i am just into them.
Skullmates have cute faces with giddy expressions. the goal here is simple - if you stare at them long enough, they should make you happy too [granted though, that’s just based on my own personal experience… i do a lot of staring].
this image showcases various characters with various skull bases:

here is the VUDU prototype based off of a 3D Maya model. it was debuted at this year’s 2009 San Diego Comic Con with our distributor’s booth [DKE TOYS]:

can you find the other two figures with the same skull base? this is for production efficiency’s sake, and these 3 will sum up our first run. we are looking at around 10 inch figures and there should be some posability too.
